Yeah Yeah Yeahs Announce New Record
Art-rock trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs are one of those bands that eludes stereotypes on the sole basis that their music transcends any specific borders. Whether you're looking at the spontaneous thrash tendencies of their 2003 release, Fever To Tell
, or at the textural dynamics of 2006's Show Your Bones
, there are a lot of layers that can easily be peeled away to reveal the more visceral center of their work. And, in this music writer’s opinion, their “Is Is” EP was quite possibly one of their best releases. Who can deny the cutthroat energy that aligns with Karon O's biting vocals on “Rockers to Swallow”? But I'm getting a little ahead of myself here.
In more recent news, Yeah Yeah Yeahs have announced, via Instagram, that their new album is slated to come out in spring of 2013. This will follow 2009's It's Blitz! While that release saw the band verging toward more electronic territory, who can tell what their new album might hold. Maybe they'll return to their art-punk roots? Maybe they'll veer even further toward the arena-style synthetics that permeated It's Blitz!? Or maybe they'll go for something softer and more rough-hewn like O's Native Korean Rock project? Who knows? But I'm sure excited about this.
